Cashen, Mary 'Jake' Jessamine
Mary “Jake” Jessamine Cashen, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Mercy Hallmar, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, by Deacon Bob Hurych. Visitation one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by her nieces, Pat Amspoker and family of Fort Collins, Colo. and Shirley McGonigle and family of Clarion.
Jake was born March 18, 1915, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Clay and Genevieve (Bantz) McGonigle. She graduated from St. John's High School in Independence. On Oct. 20, 1938, she married Clifford Cashen in Dubuque, Iowa. She worked in sales for Fanny Farmer and in her husband's business, Bailey Boot Shop. Jake was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she enjoyed the Catholic Daughters of America and St. Margaret's Circle. She will be remembered for her fine needlework and cardinal collection, extraordinary baking skills and the delightful fudge that she and Clifford used to make.
Jake was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Richard McGonigle.
