Fern A. Parkin, 102, of Manchester, formerly of Earlville, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Earlville United Parish with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Earlville. Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, is in charge of arrangements.
Fern was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Earlville, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert and Katherine (Sandercock) Carty. On Oct. 10, 1935, Fern married Clate Parkin in Dubuque. Together they farmed near Earlville. Fern was active in the church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed polka music, baking and watching "Wheel of Fortune."
Fern is survived by her son, Ronald (Carolyn) Parkin of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Jeff (Michelle) Parkin of Cedar Rapids and Jamie Parkin of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fern was preceded in death by parents; her husband, Clate, on Feb. 11, 1986; two sisters; and a niece.
