Janice Kay Lampe, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. A prayer service will be at 5 p.m. to celebrate Jan's life with Father Dustin Vu leading

the service. Inurnment will

be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Ryan.

Survivors include her husband, Donald, of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Stephenie Hogan of Cedar Rapids; son, Jeff (Brenda) Hogan of Walford; sister, Mary Lou (Bakir) Wali of Garner, Iowa; brothers, Dean (Chris) Estling of Chippewa Falls, Wis., and Kenny (Kathy) Estling of Altoona, Iowa; her very much loved and cherished grandchildren, Nick, Casey and Brielle Hogan of Walford; nieces, Laura (Jason) Mueller of Ankeny, Iowa, and Annie Estling of Chippewa Falls; nephews, Todd (Monica) Wali of Ladora, Christopher (Jessica) Estling of Stowe, Ohio, Clint Estling of Chippewa Falls and Kyle Estling of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Evelyn Estling; and infant son, Stephen Leonard Hogan.

Janice was born Jan. 28, 1943, the daughter of Evelyn and Leonard Estling in Manchester, Iowa. She graduated from West Delaware High School in 1961. On Sept. 29, 1990, she married Donald Leo Lampe in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital for 20 years. After retirement, she was a school bus aide and van driver for College Community School District.

Janice was a compassionate and caring woman who was a joy to be around for anyone. She always said "I was put on Earth for one reason and that was to be a grandmother" and there would be no dispute with her about that. She was never afraid to tell anyone or show anyone her love for her grandchildren. Some of her favorite activities revolved around what was going on with her grandchildren and the rest of her family. She loved going to extracurricular activities, ranging from Saturday wrestling tournaments to Wednesday night softball games.

All it took was a special request from any one of her grandchildren and she would cook up her famous roast and mashed potatoes dinner that everyone loved so much. Janice enjoyed her coffee times, luncheons and dinners with her many friends.

Jan also extended her love to people in need. She worked at the College Community School District as an aide on the school buses for the special needs students of the school. She treated the students very well, almost as if they were her own kids.

Jan always was one to be good with people. Even before working for the school, she worked as a secretary for multiple doctors' offices.

In the end, there is a little grief about losing such a special woman, but there is joy in knowing that she spent her entire life helping others and showing love to as many people as she could reach.
