William “Bill” Reardon, 84, of Farmersburg, died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point.
He was born Jan. 18, 1929, to William “Mike” and Gladys Oina (Mathews) Reardon in Farmersburg, Iowa. Bill was confirmed the summer of 1953 at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. He graduated from Farmersburg High School in 1947 and Luther College, Decorah in 1954 after serving in the Army.
Bill was united in marriage to Florence NadyneReque on Aug. 9, 1953, in Manistique, Mich. To this union four children were born. Bill served as a retail manager for many different businesses all over the Midwest before relocating to Farmersburg to take over his father's Standard Oil business until his retirement at the age of 55. He then purchased a marina and boat dock in McGregor, post-retirement, where he ran the business “for fun” for several years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg and the St. Olaf American Legion Post 388.
Bill has many good memories of boating and fishing; he and Nadyne traveled to Canada frequently for fishing trips. They also traveled extensively in retirement, spending winters in Mazatlan, Naples and eventually building a home in central Florida, until his health took them back to Farmersburg permanently in 2008.
Bill is survived by his wife, Nadyne; his four children, Mark (Deb) Reardon of Guttenberg, Mike (Dawn) Reardon of Farmersburg, Leesa (Charles) Gilliam of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Paula (Mike) Ahlers of Sheldon, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Nick, Val, Sydney, Justin, Claire, Charles (CJ), Nathan, Kyle and Mark; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Joe; and his sister, Sandra (Kermit) Hansen of Holmen, Wis.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Mike; his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Delos Hamann; mother and father-in-law, Florence and Thor Reque; brother-in-law, Jack Reque; and niece, Michele Stevens.
