Stransky, Gary L.
Gary L. Stransky, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital. Graveside Memorial Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Czech National Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is handling arrangements.
Gary was born Feb. 24, 1945, in Iowa City, the son of Albert A. and Marjorie (Kessler) Stransky. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA Degree. Gary served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1974. He met and married Mary Harkin in 1969 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Gary worked for over 30 years at Quaker Oats, until his retirement in 2010. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, cooking, his dogs, watching sports, as well as spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
It broke our hearts to lose you. But you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, Michael Stransky of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Sharon (T.J.) Evans of Cedar Rapids; and his two grandkids, Tyler and Molly Evans.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to the Disabled American Veterans.
