Glanville C. "Bill" Wheeler passed away peacefully at his home in Santa Rosa, Calif., on
July 23, 2014.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Norma; their five children, Lorna, Clayton, Angela, Bill and Richard; their 11 grandchildren (locally: Kelli Evans McLaughlin and Ryan Evans); and seven great-grandchildren (locally: Dylan Dolezal, Austin and Keegan Holub).
Born in 1919, Bill was a veteran of World War II and served as captain in the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers, stationed in Kunming, China. After his distinguished service, he returned to his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he became a successful businessman in sales.
In 1957, he met his beloved wife, Norma, and their new family moved to Cedar Rapids, where they spent the next 21 happy years. In 1978, they relocated to Mission Viejo, Calif., and then again in 1993 to their present home in Oakmont, Calif.
Bill was an avid golfer and also loved to fish and play cribbage.
He was well known for his generous spirit and made friends with all whom he met.
Above all, Bill was devoted to his wife and family. Bill was admired and loved for his kindness, integrity, his love of life, and his big-hearted generosity of spirit. His life serves as an example to all of us as a life well spent.
