Evans, Esther Eilene
Esther Eilene Evans, 95, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 in Williamsburg, Iowa.
Esther was born September 28, 1914, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, a daughter of Jacob Henry and Lottie Virginia Keiser Brower. She graduated from South English High School.
On September 30, 1934, Esther married Joe W. Evans in South English. They lived in South English, Keswick, North English and Williamsburg since 1941. She worked as a cashier and hostess at Seven Villages for seven years.
Esther was a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church where she had been president of the United Methodist Women and held other offices, the Williamsburg Garden Club, and was both an active supporter of the Williamsburg school music and athletics departments. She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, a past Worthy Matron and served in the Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star.
She and Joe moved to Highland Ridge in 2004. Esther was a loving homemaker for Joe and her children and a wonderful nanny for all of her grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters, Mary (Dave) Melsa of Branson, Mo., Peggy (Greg) Folkmann of Williamsburg, Iowa; sons, Gary (JoLynn) Evans of Afton, Minn.; and Jeffrey (Lisa) Evans of Middle Amana, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Esther was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alma Brubaker and Edna Fischer; grandson, William Jeffrey Evans; and her husband, Joe, in May, 2008.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. James Parks officiating. Visitation will be at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Brethren Cemetery near South English.
A memorial fund has been established for the Williamsburg United Methodist Church and the English River Church of the Brethren near South English.
