Peters, Vicki L. Ilten
Vicki L. Ilten Peters, 56, of Bourbonnais, Ill., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012, in her home after an apparent heart attack. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include her husband, Stacey; a daughter, Ashley, and two sons, Sean and Trevor, all students at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill.; her mother, Ethel Ilten of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Pam (Steve) Strauss of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Dan (Suzanne) Ilten of Edina, Minn.; a stepson, Scott (Candi) Peters of Petoskey, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Sondra Peters of Chicago; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lee A. (Meta) Ilten Sr. and Edgar (Mildred) Vangen; her father, Lee A. Ilten Jr.; and a brother, Doug Ilten.
Vicki was born June 2, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Lee and Ethel Vangen Ilten Jr. She graduated in 1974 from Washington High School, where she was active in cheerleading, the honor society and was a homecoming attendant. Vicki later attended and graduated from Iowa State University in 1978. While at Iowa State Vicki was a member of Chi Omega sorority, was on the dean's list and earned a degree in interior design.
Vicki worked in design and sales at Desk's Inc. in Chicago, where she met her husband, Stacey. They married May 19, 1983, in Wheaton, Ill.
Vicki loved her family as well as all kinds of animals. It was important for her to attend as many family events as possible. She fought a long and courageous battle with cancer and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Everyone also will miss her loving, giving, and outgoing personality. She was truly a blessing.
A memorial fund has been established.
