DeMeulenaere, Donald E.
Donald E. DeMeulenaere, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral mass: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: 2:30 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Victor. A vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where friends may visit from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friends may also visit after 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Military rites by Fairfax American Legion Pekomy Post No. 572.
Survivors include six children, Jodi (Gerald) Eichhorn, Lisa Wilcox, Melissa (Troy) Jibben of Cedar Rapids, Tonya (Jeff) Fitch of Marion, C. J. (Heather) and Andrew DeMeulenaere of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; mother, Margaret of Brooklyn; sisters, Donna (Bill) Frese of Cedar Rapids, and Linda (Larry) Fuller of Johnston; two brothers, Wayne (Charlene) of Hartwick, and Roger (Kathy) of Victor; and many nieces and nephews.
His father, Charles (1974); and niece Lorie Chekal (2007); preceded him in death.
Donald Edward DeMeulenaere was born July 19, 1937, in rural Hartwick, Iowa, the son of Charles Edward and Margaret Mary Thys DeMeulenaere. He graduated from St. John Catholic School of Victor in 1955. Don served in the U.S. Army spending two years in Germany. During his life, Don was employed at Rockwell Collins, Goss Graphic Systems and he did some farming as well. Don also enjoyed watching the Cubs. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fairfax American Legion Pekomy Post No. 572 and the Memorials may be directed to the family.
