Swisher teen turns himself in for vandalism to mosque
A Swisher teenager turned himself in late Tuesday for vandalism to a Cedar Rapids mosque, police said.
Eric Spencer, 19, confessed to criminal mischief at the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids, 2999 First Ave. SW, police said. Windows and glass doors were busted, causing about $3,000 in damage.
Members of the mosque who were arriving for a prayer service discovered the vandalism early Tuesday.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said this appears to be a random act of criminal mischief.
Spencer signed a promise to appear in court and was released.
An investigation was continuing.
