Second Amendment rights threatened
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Years ago, my parents acquired a new puppy which they attempted to train to stay in the kitchen. Soon the puppy placed one paw across the threshold and eventually the other paw. His next effort was to sneak his snout a little closer and eventually he had entered the living room and taken complete control of the house.
Similarly, this is happening with those who wish to dismantle the Second Amendment. First, it is what they erroneously call “assault rifles and ammo magazines” and then in the next inevitable tragedy, it will be handguns. I predict that the ultimate control will be done by limiting ammunition with forcible rationing, slowing down production and, of course, taxing it out of existence.
I am not a particular gun or weapon aficionado but if I may take liberties and license to paraphrase a quotation that has been attributed (falsely) to Voltaire: “I disagree with your choice of defense, but I defend your right to choose it, with my life.”
