Borschel, Metcalf NWCA Academic All-Americans

The National Wrestling Coaches Association has released its Division I All-Academic accolades. Among the honorees are a pair of University of Iowa Hawkeyes. Seniors Brent Metcalf and Jay Borschel were named Academic All-Americans by the NWCA.
Metcalf, a three-time national finalist who won his second NCAA crown with a win over Ohio State's Lance Palmer in the 149-pound championship, earned the honor with a 3.25 grade-point average. He is a sociology major. he finished his college career with a 108-3 record.
Borschel, a two-time All-American who won the 174-pound national championship this season, holds a 3.21 GPA in biology. Borschel finished 98-10 in three years with the Hawkeyes, posting a 37-0 mark as a senior. He placed third as a sophomore and a national qualifier his junior season.
Iowa State's Nick Fanthorpe also made the list, as did Cornell's Justin Kerber, a prep at Emmetsburg/Armstrong-Ringsted, Old Dominion's James Nicholson, who wrestled at Des Moines Roosevelt and Nebraska's Josh Ihnen, a former Sheldon prep.
