Doris graduated from St. Martin's High School in Cascade in 1945. She then went on to receive her degree in nursing from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids in 1948. She was famous for her cooking and baking skills, especially her sour cream raisin pies. Every Sunday you could find her grandchildren and great-grandchildren visiting her house and enjoying treats made by "Grandma Cookie." She always had a smile and open arms for hugs and kisses from the little ones. Her hobbies included reading, bowling, bridge and playing euchre. She was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan. She was a strong and beautiful woman who loved her family and they loved her.
She is survived by her children, MaryJean (Steve) Knepper of Cascade, Sheryl (Jim) Buckels of West Des Moines, Patrick (Lori) Talbert of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Kathy (Brian) Gavin of Cascade; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Talbert of Cascade; her sister, Jean Marie Brady B.V.M of Iowa City; eight grandchildren, Shelley, Ben, James, Jill, Jesse, Shane, Katie and Carson; three step-grandchildren, John Paul, Stephen and Michael; and 12 great-grandchildren.
