An Iowa City man faces multiple charges after assaulting a woman, eluding police and crashing his vehicle into a utility pole.
Police said Logan G. Van Scoyk, 19, of 529 East Burlington Street, was downtown with a woman around 1 a.m. Sunday and got into an argument and grabbed the woman by the arm and forced her out of a cab, causing scratches on her left arm.
The woman was let back into a cab and later at Van Scoyk's residence they got into an argument.
Soon after, police received a call about Van Scoyk traveling in his vehicle near his residence, but when police tried to pull him over he refused to stop leading officers on a short chase, reaching speeds over 25 miles above the speed limit, according to criminal complaints.
In the same block of his residence, the chase ended as Van Scoyk crashed into two vehicles and a utility pole.
Police said he had bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, odor of alcohol, poor balance, failed a breathalyzer test and had a blood-alcohol content of .128.
Van Scoyk was charged with eluding, operating while intoxicated and domestic abuse assault.
He remains in the Johnson County Jail Sunday on a $6,000 cash-only bond.
