Gerald W. "Jerry" Veit, 75, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chelsea, with the Rev. Michael Mescher as celebrant with Deacon Joe Behounek assisting. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Jerry is survived by sons, Nick (Amy) Veit of Marion and Andrew (Jenelle) Veit of Chelsea; daughters, Amy (Rob) Gordon of Omaha, Neb., and Gretchen (Alex) Sturgeon of Bennington, Neb.; sister, Debbie (John) Sheda of Independence; and seven grandchildren, Jacob, Tanner, Abigail, Lauren, Emerson, Vanessa and VinLee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ella Veit; wife, Patricia in September 2010; brother, John Veit; and sister, Carol and brother-in-law James Kaplan.
Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, is serving the family.
