Moral obligation to fight climate change
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Sep. 25, 2013 4:28 pm
When confronted with the dangers of climate change, people refuse to accept non-existence as an end result. Our subconscious is normally objective about just about everything except for accepting non-existence. Denial and dismissal are natural reactions. Rationalizations abound. Fighting the messenger, fleeing the situation or playing ignorant are standard reactions.
Ducking the issue in an attempt to remain “safe” is also prevalent. Creating alternate views and conspiracies that don't address the issues are the forte of a certain segment. Avoiding the issue with mistaken religious beliefs is also prevalent.
The obvious problem with this is that the issues of climate change are not being dealt with in an effective and widespread way. Traditional defense mechanisms are leading to an opposite result and are leading humans into non-survival.
I am not going down without a fight. Plus, I have a moral obligation to fight climate change regardless of the outcome.
