Iowa City police arrested two University of Iowa students Wednesday night after following up on a tip.
According to criminal complaints, a tip to the Iowa City CrimeStoppers led police to 929 Iowa Avenue, No. 15 around 11:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, police could smell burning marijuana coming from the apartment. Officers added a water pipe, used for smoking marijuana, was seen sitting on a living room table from a window.
After making contact with the residents, the officers were denied a request for a consent search. Police later obtained a search warrant and entered the apartment where they found three-quarters of a pound of marijuana, $3,179 cash, packaging materials, a digital scale, and other items used for the sale of illegal drugs.
Lee R. Henneberry, 20, a resident of the apartment, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, Iowa drug tax stamp violation, keeping a drug house and promoting the gathering for use of marijuana.
Justin M. Downs, 21, of 702 N. Van Buren St., was charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Henneberry is the second UI student in less than a month accused of selling marijuana. On Oct. 27, Iowa City Police charged George J. Rakich, a UI student with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Iowa drug tax stamp violation and keeping a drug house after seizing nearly two pounds of marijuana from his College Street residence.
Henneberry is being held at Johnson County Jail on a $27, 950 cash only bond.
