DES MOINES - Tom Harkin, the former U.S. senator from Iowa known as the state's 'liberal lion,” will be among the speakers at the Democratic National Convention next week in Philadelphia, the Hillary Clinton campaign confirmed Thursday.
Harkin, who announce his retirement from the Senate in 2014 after a 40-year career in Congress, endorsed Clinton during the Democratic primary election season and has campaigned on her behalf.
Harkin's speaking date at the convention, which runs Monday through July 28 in Philadelphia, has not been released by the Clinton campaign.
Harkin was not available for comment Thursday.
A news release from the Clinton campaign said convention speakers will 'speak about their support for Clinton's vision of an America that is stronger together and where the economy works for everyone, not just those at the top.”
