Lolita Marie Schanbacher, 86, died Friday, May 9, 2014, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Atkins with the Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at St. Stephens Cemetery, Atkins. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at St. Stephens Lutheran Church. Memorials may be left for St. Stephens Lutheran Church or Central Lutheran School.
Lolita was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Atkins, the daughter of Carl and Emma (Happel) Gerhold Sr. On Sept. 7, 1947, she married Gilmore Schanbacher at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Atkins. Lolita worked as a cook at Central Lutheran School in Atkins, Atkins Elementary School and Trinity Lutheran School in Cedar Rapids.
She was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, the Ladies' Aid Society and the choir. Lolita was an accomplished cook and baker.
She is survived by her husband, Gilmore, of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Jan (Rev. Jerry) Doellinger of Cedar Rapids, JoAnn (Tom) Schumacher of Cedar Rapids and Jean (Rick) Von Dielingen of Seymour, Ind.; four grandchildren, Eric (Stephanie) Schumacher, Amy (Mark) Jungmann, Michelle (Bill) Quinn and Rachel Von Dielingen; two stepgrandchildren, Tony Schumacher and Chad (Christine) Doellinger; three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren and Billy; five step-great-grandchildren, Joshua, Connor, Kristine, Alexis and Andrew; her brother, Arlen (Barbara) Gerhold of Atkins; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Martha Burns; and her brother, Carl Gerhold Jr.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
