Watson PhD., John Allen

John Allen Watson PhD., 75, of Iowa City, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at home surrounded by family. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Iowa City. The family will greet friends after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. Graveside committal will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Fort Madison. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City.
John was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Fort Madison, the son of Henry and Margaret (Hermes) Watson. Following his start as a teacher in Fort Madison, he served as an administrator in Oelwein, Muscatine and Cudahy, Wis., where he retired from educational service in 1996.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Jo (Krogmeier) Watson of Iowa City; their six children, Kevin (Wen Ling) Watson of Cerritos, Calif., Cara (Terry) Fuller and Dana (Ken) LaRue, both of Muscatine, David Watson of Zionsville, Pa., and Margaret (Doug) Evans and Charles (Kristin) Watson, both of Iowa City; 14 grandchildren, Justin, Kailey, Taylor, Jillian, Brittany, Aron, Rachel, Alex, Michelle, Johnny, Rochelle, Mollie, Amelia and Gwen; great-grandson, Coen; and his sister, Virginia (Jerry) Ludden of East Lansing, Mich.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade St., Iowa City, IA 52240.
