Taylor, George A.
George A. Taylor, 87, of Central City, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at his home following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jean of Central City; his children, Lois Glage of Walford, Rick (Cheryl) Taylor of Central City and Sandy (Loras) Faber of Monticello; eight grandchildren, Cindy Akers, Heinzel Glage, Tina Toom, Derek Taylor, Noah Taylor, Drew Faber, Katina White and Marty Boyer; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
George was born July 12, 1923, to Della (Edgerly) Taylor in Central City, Iowa. He married Mary Jean Ahlrich on Jan. 27, 1949, in Monticello, Iowa. George was a dedicated Linn County farmer and worked at Wilson/Farmstead Foods until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. George was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved fishing and gardening. He and Mary Jean also loved dancing.
A memorial fund has been established in George's memory.
