George Postel, 83, died Tuesday evening, June 2, 2015, in his home following a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at the United Methodist Church, Anamosa, with interment in Riverside Cemetery, with military honors. The Rev. Laurie Riley will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; two children, Doug (LuAnne) Postel, Urbandale, and Sue (Rich) Crump, Anamosa; five grandchildren, Danielle (Matt) Dominguez, Nicole (Cole) Lemon, Ross, Derek and Maria Wagenhofer; two great-grandchildren, Joscelyn and Bennett Dominguez; three brothers, Bing (Dorothy) and Russ (Jean), both of Anamosa, and Curt (Lou) Viola; and a brother-in-law, Don Smith, Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lois Smith.
George Lemuel Postel was born Jan. 2, 1932, at John McDonald Hospital, Monticello, Iowa, the son of Lyman and Dorothy Grassfield Postel. George graduated from Viola High School and then went right into the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. Following his return from service he started working as an industrial insulator.
George was a member of Local 81 of the Asbestos Workers Union in Cedar Rapids his whole working career. George married Mary Fulwider on June 1, 1958, at the United Methodist Church, Anamosa. The couple just celebrated 57 years of marriage.
