The Walk Through -- Pic of Rudock and brace
Marc Morehouse
Nov. 9, 2013 8:23 am
-- QB Jake Rudock made his warm-up appearance and had no sleeve or brace on either knee. He left the field a little earlier than the other QBs. Did some stretching, but seems fine.
-- Iowa again has four QBs here. True freshman Nic Shimonek has made every road trip this year (I'm pretty sure every road trip). QB probably will remain a dynamic position in the offseason. Let's see if Jay Scheel sticks there.
-- I think RB patterns will be the same today. Perhaps Damon Bullock gets a bump with Mark Weisman's uncertain health. Weisman is playing, how much and how well? He was eventually take out of last week's game with a sprained elbow. Jordan Canzeri took over late in the third quarter. What was that? Was it a white flag, didn't want to get the starters hurt? Or was it, hey, it's time to give the sophomore a shot? Canzeri hadn't had a carry in the last three games.
I lean toward "what the heck, give the guy a shot."
-- The wind will be a factor today. Blowing into the north endzone, the left one on your TV. Iowa K Mike Meyer is whipping his leg into 35-yarders into the wind.
Here's a 40 and . . . good by a decent amount.
-- 43-yarder into the wind, way wide left and short. Marshall Koehn, same deal. The south end zone won't be inviting for FG kickers.
Special teams coordinator Chris White is watching closely.
-- Grass surface, no rain, sunny and windy. Warmish.
-- Radio says Rudock, G Jordan Walsh and RB Mark Weisman are all available. (Notice the language or my paranoia. One or the other.)
-- Iowa going with the stars and stripes Tiger Hawk on one side of their helmets and no decal on the other. Look cool.
-- Weisman has a big brace on his right elbow. Rudock brace on his left knee.
-- On radio, KF said he hopes all three injured guy will "hold up" today.
-- We're talking big braces. Rudock has an O-lineman brace on his left knee. Weisman has a Barry Bonds elbow brace on.
-- Last week, KF just said they threw Canzeri out there to find a spark. "Maybe we push him forward this week."
We'll see.
-- DL Dean Tsopanides has made the trip.
-- Jordan Lomax is a No. 2 corner today. He's healthy. King has won the job.
-- True freshamn Reggie Spearman is the No. 2 WLB.
-- In team drills, lineups are the same. Bullock is the No. 2 RB. Canzeri is No. 3.
Second teams on the lines of scrimmage: OL -- (from right to left) Ryan Ward, Nolan MacMillan, Eric Simmons, Tommy Gaul and Andrew Donnal. DL (from left to right) -- Nate Meier, Darian Cooper, Jaleel Johnson and Faith Ekakitie.
-- Purdue safety Landon Feichter will play today. He was a second-team all-Big Ten pick last season with four picks. He suffered a broken leg early this season and has been out. Good to go today and should help.
-- This stadium isn't full. I think it's 35,000 tickets sold today and the place holds around 65,000.
-- Purdue is going to pull out all the stops to win this.
-- OK, for running thoughts, goofiness and things you can't see on TV, we'll continue our conversation on Twitter at @marcmorehouse.
I can't promised a nuanced narrative, but please, bear with me.
