Marlof, Ralph L.
Ralph L. Marolf, 76, of 506 First Ave. SW, Farley, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at 8:02 a.m., at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Friends and Relatives of Ralph may call from 2 to 8 today at the Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m., a Farley America Legion Scherrman Peterson Post #656 service will be held at 6:30 p.m., the Legion Auxiliary will meet in body at 6:45 p.m., and the Farley Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at
7:30 p.m. Service for Ralph will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at St Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial: St Francis Cemetery, Dyersville, with full Military Honors afforded by Farley America Legion Scherrman Peterson Post #656.
Ralph was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Monticello, son of Raymond and Hope (Jamison) Marolf. He received his education in the Monticello Public Schools and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. He served in United States Navy from 1950 to 1954. On Sept. 6, 1958, he was united in marriage to Gloria White at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Dyersville. He and his wife owned and operated the Farley Oil Company, the Phillips 66 Service Station, and Zip Trip Inc. until they retired on Oct. 20, 2004.
Ralph was a member of the Farley American Legion Scherrman Peterson Post #656, for which he served as a past Sergeant of Arms; a member of Farley Knights of Columbus Council #2001; the 4th Degree Dubourg Assembly Council #1573; and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Farley. He was also a member of the Tri-State Antique and Classic Car Club.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Marolf of Farley; one son, Steven (Diann) Marolf of Lenexa, Kan., one daughter, Lynn (Joe) Smith of Billings, Mont.; four grandchildren, Kaitie Marolf, Jared Marolf, Bridger Smith, and Kennedy Smith; and one sister, Kae Hard of Palmer, Alaska.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Scott Raymond Marolf on July 22, 1993.
A Ralph L. Marolf Memorial Fund has been established for St. Joseph‘s Parish, Farley.
