Sawyer, Eleanor M.
CENTRAL CITY - Eleanor M. Sawyer, 92, of Central City, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids after a brief illness. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, by the Rev. Nick Needham. Family will greet friends after 9 a.m.
Survivors include her son, Jack (Linda) of Central City; three grandchildren, Tracy (Todd) Beaton of Cedar Rapids, Tom Van Zante of Elgin, Ill., and Taylor (Leah) Sawyer of Honolulu, Hawaii; four great-grandsons, Ryan Beaton, Jacob Beaton, Odin Sawyer and Keagan Sawyer; two nieces, Marie (Tom) Hill of Fairfax and Linda (Bill) Joslin of Leawood, Kan.; and a very special friend, Betty Sines of Hiawatha, Kan.
Eleanor was born April 4, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of William and Irene “Irma” (Dickenson) Shafer. On May 22, 1936, she was united in marriage to Billy L. Sawyer in Dubuque. He died Jan. 12, 2004, after 67 years of marriage. Eleanor retired from Rockwell Collins in 1976, with 20 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Elizabeth, stepfather, Roy Patten; and three stepbrothers, Pat, Rollo and Cecil Patten.
Eleanor loved fishing, hunting, golf, and camping with family and friends.
She will be greatly missed by all.
