Vote against all incumbents
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Irony of ironies. Our mayor has enlisted the help of the former streets commissioner (Don Thomas) to solve the problem of paying for the resurrection of the worst streets this city has ever known.
In the 10 years before the change of administration, he and his office presided over the collapse of our streets. It was during his reign that decisions were made to turn many of our streets into gravel roads - i.e. “chip and seal.” This Band-Aid approach when major surgery was needed is a primary reason you can't drive on many of them today without ruining your vehicle. It is for this reason that I will not vote for our current mayor or his pet sales tax extension.
I urge you all to vote against all incumbents; they have proved their collective inadequacies as stewards. Cases in point - the give away of Second Avenue, a library not needed, purchase of a hotel that no hotelier would touch, and a mosquito-infested amphitheater, ad nauseam.
The city money problems are due to misuse of the tax money they already had. Sales tax programs have become candy for politicians who fail to properly manage the resources they have. Please vote no on the extension and give some fresh faces a chance on the City Council.
