Letter: The problem with low expectations

Does Gov. Terry Branstad realize he is going to a country which values education? Is he so desperate to create jobs he is willing to drop expectations? Rural areas don't have enough doctors. Do we lower the bar to create more? There have been programs for nursing and doctors for several years offering student loan reimbursement in exchange for work. Yet, we are still short. Do we lower the bar? When the person who decides they always wanted to be a counselor misses subtle signs of suicide - who do we hold responsible?

How uneducated does he want Iowa to be? Is he so desperate to create jobs he lowers expectations? Don't point to other state's standards, this is Iowa. Pointing to Wisconsin - let's mention how their economy tanked and teachers left to go to Minnesota, all because the union was decreased. Iowans expect when we turn to these people they are educated to assist us - safely.
