To the editor:
Regarding the Dec. 10 letter 'Wind tax credits too costly for Americans”:
It is important to realize that the accuracy of the statistics from the Institute for Energy Research is questionable. It has been estimated that the IER has received over $300,000 from ExxonMobil since 1998 and additional sums from other oil and coal industry companies. The IER is believed to have direct or indirect ties to other dirty energy industry front groups including the Koch's, the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the Cato Institute, the Heritage Foundation, and the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. The IERs so-called research findings have been questioned by many.
Along with the denial of climate change by some, the special interest propaganda promulgated by the fossil fuel industry in regard to renewable energy is a travesty for this country. Isn't it time for America to commit to being a leader in the development of renewable energy? Are we going to discontinue all forms of subsidy to energy companies or are we going to invest in the future and support clean energy?
