We have a starting time for the Sept. 11 Iowa State-Iowa football game (and Iowa's season-opener the week before)
Mike Hlas May. 26, 2010 11:15 am
It is ... 2:30 p.m.
If you don't believe me, go to the source right here. That would be ESPN.
Yes, the game will be televised.
The starting time suits me. I'm a 2:30 guy. I never, ever, ever have gone for the 11 a.m. kickoffs. I don't think any sporting event of prominence should start before 1 p.m. You've never seen a Super Bowl or World Series game or NBA Finals game start at 11 a.m.
Morning is for sorting out the cobwebs. I think it was Abraham Lincoln who once said "Nothing good ever happens before 11 a.m." Or maybe not.
That said, the Eastern Illinois-Iowa game that opens the Hawkeyes' season on Sept. 4 will be at 11 a.m. No surprise there.
Anyway, here are the Iowa football starting times set in stone (all Central times):
Sept. 4 Eastern Illinois 11 a.m.
Sept. 11 Iowa State 2:30 p.m.
Sept. 18 at Arizona 9:35 p.m.
Oct. 2 Penn State 7:05 p.m.
Oct. 9 at Michigan 2:35 p.m.
And you can set this in wet concrete:
Sept. 25 Ball State 11 a.m.
If you don't like the 2:30 or evening kickoffs, remember this: The more 11 a.m. starts you have in the Big Ten, the more it indicates your team isn't very good.
