Content still rules. Ask AOL.

This Washington Post article provides another example of what local news organizations, particularly newspapers, face when trying to support their news gathering efforts financially. It tells how AOL, which changed the information landscape when it launched 25 years ago, now must reinvent itself. Part of that reinvention, the article notes, is attempting to be one of the, if not the, nation's prime sources for your news and information.
That includes local news. The story references Patch.com, an AOL site for local news. Patch.com doesn't have anything from Iowa as of this Monday, May 24, posting.
Agreement exists when it comes to the value of news and information. That is why so many organizations are chasing this content.
The proliferation of sources from which you can get news and information -- a good thing, by the way -- increases the pressure for reliability. Established news organizations still are able to do that. The challenges, as we well know, are maintaining that reliability without slipping into poor reporting habits and finding ways to support that effort financially.
The landscape continues to change, and dramatically.
