Maxine Loukota, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Rudy Herb and Denise "Sis" Herb. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at the funeral home. Entombment: Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Mary (Jim) Herb of Fairfax and Jim Loukota of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Dennis (Terri) Herb, Rudy (Sondra) Herb and Denise "Sis" Herb; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Wenger; and special friend, Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; two sisters, Nellie and Velma; and three brothers, Oscar, Hubert and Elvin.
Maxine was born April 16, 1925, in Shellsburg, Iowa, daughter of Oscar and Mary (Combs) Walker. She married Albert Loukota on Aug. 22, 1953. He died May 10, 2014. Maxine retired from Universal Engineering after 43 years in the accounting department.
During Maxine's life, she was very health conscious and always concerned about friends and family's health. She sold herbs and vitamins for many years. Maxine was known as the herb lady by many who knew her.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She was a very caring and giving person. Maxine trusted people and was always willing to help a person in need.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family gives a special thanks to the staff at West Ridge and Mercy Hospice for their loving care given to Maxine.
Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Maxine.
