It’s time to pass casino referendum
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I see that we have a couple of the old casino opponents back for another go at it, along with Frank King, who was a backer several years ago (“Casino opponents launch effort,” Jan. 8).
They are still giving us the old, unfounded reasons on why Cedar Rapids shouldn't have a casino.
Why not let the people decide what they want? If someone is going to gamble, they'll go to an area casino, so why don't we keep the money here in our community?
As far as taking business away from bars, restaurants and other venues in town, get real. Are you saying that there should be no competition in town, so then we should cut down to one bar, one restaurant, one grocery store, one department store, etc.?
I also see where the area casinos are backing the “no” group. How much money are they putting into their campaign? Isn't this hypocrisy - talking out against a casino, but still having other casinos back your campaign?
Don't let these “no” campaigners tell you what to do. Get the casino referendum passed.
