MARION - Goodwill of the Heartland will mark the opening of a new store on May 6 in Marion.
The 15,000-square-foot store at 3202 Seventh Ave. is adjacent to its previous location. Hills Bank & Trust, which is leasing the newly-remodeled retail space to Goodwill, plans to open a new branch office in the space vacated by the non-profit organization.
'Hills Bank has been wonderful to work with and very accommodating to our needs,” said Jason Toms, Goodwill vice president of retail, in a news release. 'We are grateful for their partnership and support in making this new store happen.”
The new Goodwill store will include a training room for classes for its new retail certificate training program, which will launch this summer.
The Marion Goodwill store, including the donation drive-up, will be open seven days a week. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
'When people donate and when they shop at our stores, they create jobs and other opportunities for people with disabilities and other barriers to independence,” said Mindy Kayser, vice president of marketing for Goodwill, in a news release. 'They also give new life to old things and divert usable goods from area landfills.”
Kayser said the new Marion store will offer easy access and convenience for shoppers and donors.
'This is a brand-new building right in the footprint of our old store site along a busy thoroughfare,” she said. 'Our customers will enjoy the large, bright sales floor and other amenities that this new store brings along with great selection and value.”
Iowa City-based Goodwill of the Heartland employs more than 620 people throughout its 19-county service area in southeastern Iowa and three counties in the Illinois Quad Cities.
