Use camera funds to fix ‘terrible’ streets

Recently the Cedar Rapids Mayor said that 9 out of 10 people wanted the traffic cameras turned back on. Well, I do agree, but only if the money is used for street repair or replacement. At the rate the city is going, ti will take about five years to fill all the pot holes, and about 50 years to replace all the streets that need it. I'm sure everyone will agree our streets and bridges are in terrible condition.

The city needs to change its priorities. Stop spending millions of dollars on bike lanes and trails that only a few use. Stop replacing streetlights. Stop using our city workers to mow all the city-owned lots when contract labor is cheaper. Free up city workers so they can work on the streets.

I'm sure there are many more ideas out there. Why can't we use the traffic camera money where we need it the most? The money came from the streets, and should be used to fix or replace the streets.
