Spend tax money wisely on schools

To the editor:
I see the Cedar Rapids Community School District is trying to raise our taxes another 8 cents per $1,000 of taxable value.
Last year Hiawatha Elementary School, which is in the Cedar Rapids Community School District, had the entire inside and outside of the school painted. This took months of labor and a lot materials. Now, the district is tearing out all of the movable walls in part of the school that were painted last year and replacing them with permanent walls that will need to be painted. The district is replacing the windows in the school and those windows will need to have the paint retouched.
Are any of the departments at the 'Taj Mahal” on Edgewood Road talking to each other? There is the maintenance department and the building improvement department spending our last tax increases to improve buildings. Do the heads of these departments communicate to each other? The schools do need improvements, but this redundancy is wasteful.
