Harris, Maxine E.
Maxine E. Harris, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died July 2, 2012, at Manor Care Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 6, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her son, Merwin Harris, and her daughter, Edith Harris, both of Cedar Rapids; her grandsons, Neil Harris of Cedar Rapids and Mark Harris of Hastings, Neb.; and her sisters, Lavon Kale and Frieda North, both of Cedar Rapids, Wanda Blake of Marion, Avis (Richard) Serovy of Solon and Nell Driscoll of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mervil and Edith Rich; her husband, George; and her brothers, Harry, Marion and Ray.
Maxine was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Allamakee County, the daughter of Mervil J. and Edith G. (Lovell) Rich. She was united in marriage to George H. Harris on Sept. 1, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. She retired after 32 years in assembly at Rockwell Collins.
Maxine enjoyed needlepoint, traveling and had made it to every state but Alaska. Her greatest enjoyment was her family. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Manor Care Center for their compassionate care they provided to Maxine for the last several years.
