Loynachan, Cornelia 'Connie'
Cornelia “Connie” Loynachan, 90, a resident of Linn Manor, died there Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion, by the Rev. Dr. Howard Chapman, with a light lunch to follow. Burial: Columbia Cemetery, Columbia, Iowa, at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include her children, Tim (Brita) Loynachan of Marion and Lynn Loynachan of Woodbury, Minn.; three grandchildren, Colin, Nathan and Kirsten; four brothers, Bruce, Leo, Jim and Nelson Nikkel; and two sisters, Sylvia Menninga and Harriet Zylstra.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and a sister.
Connie was born March 15, 1920, in Taintor, Iowa, the daughter of Tunis and Nellie (Stek) Nikkel. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1946, then received her RN degree in 1949. Connie worked for two years in nursing before returning to Central College in Pella, earning her BSN degree in 1951. On July 15, 1955, Connie was united in marriage to Fred Loynachan in Sully, Iowa. He died Aug. 16, 2008. She was a longtime school nurse, serving at various elementary schools in the Cedar Rapids Community School District.
