MARY SUE MADRICK
Cedar Rapids
Mary Sue Madrick, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 11, at
St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Father Phillip Thompson. A reception will be held at the church following Mass. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sue's life. The family will greet friends beginning one hour before Mass at the church.
Sue is survived by her husband, Robert Madrick; siblings, John Brickley and Tammy Brickley; children, Diane (Scott) Grant, Bob (Lori) Madrick, John (Jennifer) Madrick and Beth (Marc) Valenta; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Brickley; and brother, William Brickley.
Sue was born April 2, 1935, in Spooner, Wis. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1957 with a degree in nutrition. On June 19, 1961, she married Robert Madrick in Decorah. Over the next eight years, the couple welcomed four children into their lives. Her children remember her as a devoted and loving mother who was passionately dedicated to her family, no matter what life challenges she encountered.
Sue was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She loved holidays, family get-togethers and spending time with her family. She would spend hours preparing food favorites as only she could. Sue was an incredibly strong woman who never gave up and was a role model for all who knew and loved her. She will be desperately missed.
The family would like to thank UnityPoint Hospice for their dedication, support and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Catholic Charities at www.catholiccharitiesdubuque.org.
