To the editor:
Many people are unaware of what 4-H is and how your child can benefit from the program.
As a former 4-H member, I am passionate about sharing the benefits of this program and opportunity for kids starting in fourth grade. Many think that it is only for farm kids or kids who show livestock. That is not the case. It is for everyone.
4-H focuses on your head, heart, hands and health. Being a member of a 4-H club allows kids to learn, alongside their peers, a variety of life skills. Kids are taught how to set goals and the steps to reach them. They are given opportunities to learn lifelong skills such as cooking, sewing, carpentry and photography. Your children will find talents that they didn't know they had. 4-H opens many doors for your kids and allows them to meet a variety of people.
These relationships and friendships can help set them up for their future, earn scholarship money, and allow them to put community activities on their resumes and applications.
I was a member of 4-H from the time I was in fourth grade until I graduated from high school. I learned many life skills in my home as well as on our farm. Help your kids become prepared for their future and get them involved in a life changing experience.
