Lowenberg, Josephine LaVonne 'Jo' Mourlam
Josephine LaVonne “Jo” Mourlam Lowenberg, 81, of Bickford Assisted Living and Memory Care, Marion, died there Friday, June 11, 2010, from a long illness. Jo's funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel, by Celebrant Mary Morgan. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time Monday in the chapel. Burial: Lisbon Cemetery
Surviving Jo are three daughters, Nancy (Mike) Weitenhagen, Urbandale, Beth Long, Carson City, Nev., and Jody (Ken) Clark, Mount Vernon. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Wendy Woods Skildum, Jason Clark, Sara Weitenhagen Deich and Josh Clark; and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding Jo in death were her parents, Henry and Martha Shutt Mourlam; a daughter, Phyllis Jo Woods; and eight brothers and sisters.
Jo was born April 8, 1929, in Woolstock, Iowa, and graduated from Belmond High School. She married Philip Lowenberg on Sept. 20, 1947. He died in 1974. Jo and her family moved to Mount Vernon in 1966 from Belmond. She worked many years for Cornell College and most recently was hostess for the Bracket House bed-and-breakfast on Cornell College campus, retiring in 2008.
Jo was the ultimate care giver for her family.
A memorial fund has been established.
