Apr. 17, 2010 6:51 pm
Not dressed -- OL Kyle Haganman, QB Wyatt Suess, DT Steve Bigach, OL Nolan MacMillan, RB Paki O'Meara, DB Ryan Edwards, SS Tyler Sash, DT Marty Hopkins, FS Brett Greenwood, DE Joe Gaglione, RB Adam Robinson, LB Lance Tillison (shoulder surgery, back in the fall), WR Paul Chaney, LB Terrance Pryor (boot left leg). Fullback Brett Morse dressed but didn't play much.
Kickers -- From 39 yards out on the left hash, Trent Mossbrucker was 1 of 1 and Daniel Murray was 1 of 3, wide left on both misses.
From 39 middle, Mossbrucker was 2-for-2 and wide left and good.
From 39 on the right hash, Mossbrucker made his and Murray was wide left, again a line drive that sailed low and outside.
During the two timed quarters, the kickers each got a chance.
Mossbrucker missed a 44-yarder wide right. Murray drilled a 42-yarder.
For the day, Mossbrucker finished 4 of 5 and Murray 3 of 7.
Starting OL -- From left to right, Riley Reiff, Julian Vandervelde, James Ferentz, Adam Gettis, Markus Zusevics.
Second O-line from left to right Matt Tobin, Conor Boffeli, Josh Koeppel, Cody Hundertmark and Woody Orne.
First D-line you know. Second, Dominic Alvis, Mike Daniels, Thomas Nardo and Lebron Daniel.
Sacks -- Christian Ballard, Karl Klug, Jordan Bernstine, Nardo, Troy Johnson, Tyler Nielsen, Joe Forgy, Alvis .5 and Daniels .5. That's eight sacks to go along with Johnson's 48-yard TD return on a fumbled snap between Ferentz and Vandenberg.
Picks -- Nick Nielsen, a backup safety and Tyler's younger brother, picked off A.J. Derby twice. MLB Bruce Davis, CB Micah Hyde and S Tom Donatell had pass breakups. Hyde's stopped a drive led by Vandenberg and held the offense to a FG attempt during the first of two 15:00 quarters.
Penalties -- I counted four illegal procedures, also a hold on the OL. QB Ricky Stanzi was called for an illegal forward pass.
Punts -- Backup Eric Guthrie had 30 (inside the 20), 38, 35 and a 19-yarder after a botched snap. Ryan Donahue had a 53 and 50 yarder.
Quarterbacks -- Stanzi finished 7 of 9 for 72 yards. He didn't participate in the timed quarters.
James Vandenberg was 13 of 22 for 114 yards.
John Wienke was 3 of 10 for 33. He was victimized by at least a couple drops.
A.J. Derby finished 1 for 3 for 2 yards with two picks.
Rushing -- Brad Rogers was the first teamer until he suffered a mild left ankle sprain. (Coach Ferentz said he's fine.) Rogers finished 12 rushes for 35 yards.
Jason White, who may or may not be an RB in the fall, was a workhorse, rushing 22 times for 74 yards. He replaced Rogers and did a lot of running for both sides.
Jacob Reisen, a fullback, carried five times for 35 yards, positive yards everytime.
WR Colin Sandeman took a reverse 22 yards.
Stanzi rushed once for 7; Vandenberg once for 5 and Derby twice for 0.
Receiving -- It was Don Nordmann's day.
The senior from Maquoketa Valley had five catches for 49 yards, including a beautiful sideline grab.
WR Marvin McNutt 2-15
TE Brad Herman 3-29
WR Ben Evans 2-21
WR Keenan Davis 2-15
TE Dakota Getz 1-10
TE Zach Furlong 1-10
WR Colin Sandeman 2-13
WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos 1-32
TE Zach Derby 1-18
WR Jordan Cotton 1-10
FB Jacob Reisen 1-2
TE Jonathan Gimm 1-6
Drops -- RB Jason White 1, TE J.D. Griggs 2, WR Sandeman 1.
Attendance -- According to Iowa sports information director Phil Haddy, the spring scrimmage drew 23,500.
Iowa WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos and defensive tackle Karl Klug sign autographs for kids during Iowa's spring scrimmage Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. QB Ricky Stanzi and DJK were among the most popular. I talked to Klug about squirrel hunting and turkey hunting. He's from Caledonia, Minn., which calls itself the 'Turkey hunting capital of the state,' but he's never been. He likes to catfish, though. (Marc Morehouse)
