Harrington, Ardella W(ilbur)
Ardella W(ilbur) Harrington, 91, passed away March 19, 2011.
She was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Melcher, Iowa, to Pearl and Tabitha (Kirtley) Wilbur. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1937 and went on to attain a business degree from Capital City Commercial College, Des Moines. Ardella was employed in a legal firm and went on to work in two Social Service agencies in Knoxville, Iowa, and for the U.S. Employment Service/War Manpower Commission. She was also employed by an auto firm, as well as L.W. Ramsey Advertising. She retired in 1982 after 21 years at Creswell, Munsell, Fultz, & Zirbel in Cedar Rapids.
Ardella was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church and the Cedar Rapids Woman's Club. She was a life member of Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a life member (since 1939) of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Ardella was married to Wm. G. Harrington; they later divorced.
She is survived by her son, Harold L. (“Hezz”) Harrington and wife Vickie of Cedar Rapids; granddaughters, Jennifer Harrington and Katherine Harrington; great-grandson, Mitchell Harrington; sister, Marjorie Weider; nieces and nephew, Betsie Fink, Susan Weider and Phillip Weider; and “adoptive daughters,” Willie Siler (California) and Nancy Prabel (Cedar Rapids).
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, William G. Harrington II; and her sister, Elizabeth Ann Kelly.
As Ardella requested, there will be no services. A private family burial will be held at the Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is in charge of the arrangements.
