Bedlam House production deserves support

The words 'My subject is war, and the pity of war,” are etched on the Memorial Stone around the names of the 17 World War I poets in Westminster Abbey in London. I heard these words again recently when I attended the first play 'Not About Heroes,” presented by Bedlam House at the Dow Theater in Cedar Rapids.

It was a memorable evening, as the two actors who played the poets Wilfred Owens and Siegfried Sassoon were brilliant portraying the friendship and their poetry. They met while being treated for shell shock or PTSD in a hospital in Scotland. The set was amazing in depicting the atmosphere of WWI with all its horrors.

There were not many in the audience to appreciate all the hard work that had gone into this production, but I hope Bedlam House will continue to produce such plays and our community will support them.
