Walsh, Robert C.
Robert C. Walsh, 73, of West Branch, formerly of Riverside, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011, at his home in West Branch, following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services for Bob will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Father Rich Adam will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Riverside V.F.W. Post 6414. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary's Parish Center. Visitation for Bob will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside.
A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Bob.

Robert Charles Walsh was born on Feb. 4, 1938, in Riverside, Iowa, the son of Bernard and Velma (Thomann) Walsh. Bob was a 1956 graduate of St. Mary's High School. Bob served with the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, during the Korean era. On Nov. 23, 1963, Bob was united in marriage to Joan Elaine Krause in San Jose, Calif. Bob was a farmer for 20 years south of Riverside on the family farm, then Bob worked in tech services at the University of Iowa. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Bob enjoyed gardening, farming, yard work, being in the outdoors and socializing with his V.F.W. buddies, but most of all, Bob dearly loved to spend time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Bob will be deeply missed by his wife, Joan of West Branch; his children, Kelly Walsh and her husband, Jim Saylor of Tipton, Lori Walsh-Myers and her husband, Mike of West Branch, and Marvin Walsh and his wife, Lisa; seven grandchildren, Joshua Walsh, Jake Myers, Sydney Myers, Jessica Myers, Max Myers, Robby Saylor and Summer Saylor; two brothers, Loren Walsh and his wife, Willadean of Bartow, Fla., and Gary Walsh and his wife, LeAnn of Riverside; one sister-in-law, Ann Walsh of Davenport; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leonard Walsh; and one sister, Marilyn Muller and her husband, Jack.
