From Armory Warehouse To Mini-Mall In Decorah
The exterior of the former Armory at 421 West Water Street in Decorah, Iowa, shows the building's warehouse heritage, but gave little hint to its new function as the home of a mini-mall at its opening on Saturday, November 10, 1979. The building, constructed in 1915, began renovation in 1977 under the direction of Terry Carolan and housed 14 new mini-mall businesses on opening day. At various times in its history, the building was an implement store, seed store, Buick dealership, Tatro Radio Company, soft drink bottling plant and from 1968-1977, a U.S. Army Reserve Center.
