Carole Mae Garbers, 71, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne with the Rev. David Lingard officiating. Interment will be in the Keystone Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone.

Carole was born on Aug. 11, 1947, to Walter and Frances (Offt) Wieditz in Cedar Rapids. She was baptized on Sept. 7, 1947, and confirmed on March 26, 1941. Carole graduated from Garrison High School in 1965, where she played six-on-six basketball. Carole was united in marriage to Jan Garbers on March 12, 1966, at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne. Carole was a farm wife, foreman for detassling, and worked as a cook at the Benton Community High School. She was also a cashier at the Van Horne Quick Stop before retirement.
Carole was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne, playing piano and the organ and singing in the choir. Carole loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved being around people and having a good time with her closest friends. Carole was also an excellent caretaker, and she always put others before herself.
Carole is survived by her husband, Jan Garbers; her children, Matt Garbers, Shane (Deanna) Garbers, Clint (Pamela) Garbers and Erica (Robby) Gilbert; her grandchildren, Eyan Garbers, Trenton Garbers, Samantha Garbers, Dylan Gilbert, Elizbeth Gilbert and Amber; her brothers, Dean (Linda) Wieditz, Gary Wieditz and Glen Wieditz; her sisters-in-law, Linda Wieditz and Diane Wieditz; her aunt, Ruth Wieditz; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and her closest and most dearest friends.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Frances Wieditz; her mother and father-in-law, John and Norma Garbers; her brother, Karl Wieditz and her sister-in-law, Judy Hatfield.
Carole will be missed by all who knew her.
