Watkinson, Margie A.
Margie A. Watkinson, 69, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be after noon Saturday until the services and again after the services.
Margie Ann Lenz was born Oct. 20, 1941, in Iowa City, the daughter of Everett and Dora (Burnett) Lenz. She attended schools in Lone Tree, graduating from Lone Tree High School with the class of 1960. On March 20, 1962, she married James “Jim” Watkinson in Lone Tree. For over 43 years she was employed at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Center, retiring in 2004.
Margie was a longtime member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and the Knee Knockers. She enjoyed working in her garden and around the yard at home.
Her family includes her husband, Jim; son, Darren Watkinson of McCook Lake, S.D.; grandchildren, Claire and Lucas; one brother, Donald Jenks (Donna) of West Liberty; three sisters, Phyllis Temple of Fort Wayne, Ind., Eunice Brenneman (Kenneth) of Lone Tree and Fran McLean (Charles) of Iowa City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial donations can be made in her memory to either St. Mark's United Methodist Church or Iowa City Hospice.
