Swartzendruber, Leona
Leona Swartzendruber, 89, of Iowa City, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Greenwood Manor in Iowa City. Funeral services for Leona will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. The Rev. Rob Leveridge will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation for Leona will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Leona Swartzendruber was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Kalona, to Frank and Tillie (Brenneman) Miller. She married Loran on Sept. 3, 1938. She was a farmer's wife, owner and operator of Leona's Candles Plus for 25 years – Silk Wedding and Gift Shop. She belonged to First Baptist Church in Iowa City, TTT Women's Club, Fremont Homemakers and National Candle Guild.
Leona will be deeply missed by her two sons and their wives, Don and Connie Swartzendruber of Iowa City and Gary and Virginia Swartzendruber of Lone Tree; one sister, Grace Brenneman of Barefoot Bay, Fla.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
