Barton, Ann
Ann Barton, 93, of Lone Tree, passed peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services for Ann will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. Pastors Dan Schoepf and Susan Barnes will officiate the service. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery. Following the committal services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation for Ann will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree.
Ann DeJong was born Nov. 9, 1918, in Tracy, Iowa, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Bratt) DeJong. At age 15, she moved to Pella and worked at Central Park Cafe. Here she met her future husband, LaVerne Barton. They were married April 9, 1940. They lived and grew their family of four children, Kenneth, Linda, Peggy and Kathy in the towns of Weldon, Laurel, Van Cleve, Quasqueton, and Lone Tree, Iowa.
Ann was a hardworking, dynamic woman who was the backbone and spiritual leader of her family. Ann had a genuine love of children and spent years providing loving child care for many Lone Tree families.
She and LaVerne loved gardening. Ann was probably best known for her cooking ability. All were welcomed and fed in her home. She was a member of Calvary Church in Muscatine.
Ann will be deeply missed by her children, Kenneth (Linda) Barton of Lone Tree, Linda Banken of Lone Tree, Peggy (Bruce) Mason of Minnetonka, Minn., and Kathy (Doyle) Abrams of Rose Hill; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Nellie Riemersma; stepsiblings, Donald, Darlene, Alice and Donna; and many special friends and neighbors.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LaVerne; three brothers, Nick, John and Pete DeJong; and son-in-law, Charles Banken.
In the midst of our grief, we celebrate her life and reunion with our Savior.
A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Ann.
