Hawkeye baseball gets second chance today (with updated bracket)
May. 28, 2010 10:01 am
After suffering a humiliating 18-4 loss on Thursday to Michigan, the Iowa baseball team has new life today in the Big Ten Tournament.
No. 4 seed Iowa (28-27) faces the Indiana-Purdue winner at 2:30 p.m. in an elimination game. The winner then plays the Michigan-Minnesota loser at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Michigan's 18 runs were the second-most scored in Big Ten Tournament history. Iowa had won eight of its last nine games entering Thursday's debacle.
“Hats off to Michigan," Iowa baseball coach Jack Dahm said after the game. "I thought they did an outstanding job. There has been a lot of crazy baseball throughout the Big Ten all year long. I told our guys we still have a lot of baseball ahead of us. We are not going to let one bad game ruin the season. It seemed like every time we got two strikes on them we couldn't put them away. We are going to bounce back (today).”
